Bug Causes Windows to Become Bloated

As a Windows user, you’re used to the system getting slower and slower and taking up more storage space with every update. Now, with Windows 11, another problem has arisen for some PC models. Windows creates a file called CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal, which can grow to as large as 500 GB. Even at just a few GB, something is clearly wrong. PCwelt.de writes: “Actually, the file in question should only take up a few MB of storage space, but on some PCs, it’s several hundred GB.” Eventually, the entire drive becomes full, and nothing works anymore. But even before that happens, the computer gets slower and slower.

This problem isn’t new — it’s been around for about a year. Microsoft has promised an update, reportedly named KB5095093.

Now we can hope that this update will be released sometime this July—or we can switch to an open-source Linux system. We’ve been recommending this for nearly 18 years—and we’re doing just fine with it. We can’t understand why more people don’t (want to) give it a try. You can find many tips on this topic on our website under Protecting Your Privacy—What to Do?
