29.03.2009 Data Scandal at Kabel DeutschlandKabel Deutschland, Germany's largest cable network operator with 9.1 million customers, has, according to information from Wirtschaftswoche, passed on customer data to various call centers as part of a telemarketing campaign. The data was sent in Excel files. Various call centers, in turn, commissioned subcontractors, who also received these files. The current data scandal once again casts a negative light on the grand coalition in the Bundestag, which, under pressure from various lobbies, does not wish to abolish the so-called "list privilege" as part of data protection reform. Data protection and consumer advocates have long called for the abolition of this privilege to prevent this form of uncontrolled sharing of customer data.
