Governments are throwing money out the window

"Arms buildup is progressing rapidly in a number of countries", writes rnd.de in response to SIPRI's study on global military spending. Progressing—into the abyss? Don't we have more important things to do than throw our national wealth—and that of our children and grandchildren, because they will have to pay for our "special assets" at some point—into the mouths of a few corporations?

We will refrain from providing the current figures here and refer you to the linked article. The frontrunners continue to be the US, with Lockheed Martin, RTX, and Northrop Grumman leading the way. Elon Musk's SpaceX is slowly catching up and has doubled the revenue of its defense division (i.e., an increase of 100%). The EU recorded an increase of 13%, German defense companies +36%, which once again shows that the EU is worthwhile for Germany (and its corporate owners). However, Germany is also throwing an above-average amount of money out the window "thanks to special funds". In the current budget for 2026, around €180 billion is financed solely through debt (which younger people should be more concerned about than the pension package).

The war in Lebanon and Gaza also brought the Israeli arms industry a 16% increase in sales, while Russian arms manufacturers were able to more than compensate for their losses due to export sanctions with domestic "demand" and recorded a 23% increase.

Behind all these plus signs lie the piles of corpses of those killed by these weapons, not only in Ukraine and Palestine, but also in Sudan, Congo, Nigeria, Cambodia, and Thailand. The victims are also the people in all countries who, as a result of the diversion of these assets, will see the living conditions of their own populations deteriorate massively for years to come ...
