Last taboos fall

In March 2019, we updated our flyer on the topic of flight and migration. Here is a link to the English version. Davor hatten wir 2013 in einem 20-Minuten Film "FRONT-ex FortPrior to that, in 2013, we had already denounced European migration policy as inhumane and incompatible with human rights and international maritime and international law in a 20-minute film entitled "FRONT-ex Fort Europe" (e.g., the diversion and landing ban on ships that [could] provide assistance).

However, all the inhumanities listed in the 2019 flyer are now being surpassed by the GEAS, the supposedly "common" EU refugee policy that has been negotiated at EU level for several years and represents a compromise at the lowest level. The corresponding GEAS amendment bill for Germany is now to be passed by the Bundestag. The draft presented by Interior Minister Dobrindt should make the AfD rejoice—instead, these right-wing extremists are calling for even further tightening of the law in support of Dobrindt.

The content of the German "adjustment law" already includes

• the creation of camps where those seeking protection can be detained at internal borders for months at a time,
• with children, families, sick and traumatized people also being “treated equally",
• unaccompanied minors being allowed to be detained "for their own protection",
• without a court order, a step towards an arbitrary state,
• "safe third countries" could be designated by decree – without democratic control by the Bundestag and Bundesrat,
• Prevention of asylum procedures – deportations to a third country can be carried out before asylum is even examined.

The European distribution mechanism defined in GEAS as a fig leaf is hardly mentioned in the amendment. It is now only about repelling migrants; there is no longer any mention of the rights of refugees under the Geneva Refugee Convention.
