School strike at March 5th

With the adjacent logo of the Berlin initiative ”School without Military", we welcome the intention to hold the next nationwide school strike against the new conscription on Thursday, March 5. Aktion Freiheit statt Angst (Freedom Not Fear) will be there again.

Even though the issue of “schools without the military” has not been at the forefront of public attention over the past 15 years, the goals of the alliance, of which we were one of the founding organizations on December 7, 2010, remain unchanged. The goals of the alliance are described here. In addition, we must now not only prevent youth officers from appearing in classrooms, but also protect students from registering for the German Armed Forces.

In addition to the many grassroots groups in schools, the Peace Cooperative Network—in which Freedom Not Fear is also involved—is coordinating activities for the next school strike. In addition, a nationwide strike conference was held in Göttingen on February 14–15. There, too, a large majority voted in favor of a school strike on March 5. We all hope that the number of 55,000 participants in the last school strike on December 5 can be surpassed in 12 days.
