How do I kill someone, even "when a specific means is unavailable"? This question wasn't posed by some psychopath, but by the US government under Attorney General Todd Blanche, which concluded that the death penalty should also be carried out by firing squad. In the US states of Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah, condemned criminals can already be executed by firing squad.

Overall, the death penalty is legal in more than two dozen of the 50 US states. However, in many of these states, it has not been carried out for years. The methods "usually" used are lethal injection or the electric chair.

During his first term, President Trump reinstated the death penalty at the federal level. President Biden halted this with a moratorium. Now, Attorney General Blanche wants to pave the way for it again.
