01.05.2026 Gefahr für den Linux Kernel

Small File - Big Impact

In light of recent events, we must draw attention to a newly discovered vulnerability in the Linux kernel. Using a Python script just 732 bytes in size, one can gain root privileges in almost all Linux distributions. The linked article from Heise.de describes the process in more detail.

The vulnerability has been named “Copy Fail.” The vulnerability was detected using the AI tool Xint Code. The discoverers have already proposed a fix for the vulnerability, which should already be included in updated kernels. For older kernels, the linked article suggests a command-line command that, if necessary, removes the loaded module from memory.
