The Creeping Attack on Democracy

Yes, you read that correctly: The state, which considers minors too immature to use social media, wants to be able to turn 16- and 17-year-olds into paid informants.”

And this isn’t a conspiracy theory, but a statement by Wolfgang Kubicki, who goes on to say: “Moral and ethical boundaries are being crossed here, not least because working for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution can put informants in considerable danger.”

And we can only add that this puts not only young people at risk, but the democratic state as well. Just as in the Third Reich, parents will have to hide from their children if they want to discuss political issues. As GDR civil rights activist Bärbel Bohley predicted in 1991 — after she had already arrived in the Federal Republic:

"The secret bans, the surveillance, the suspicion, the fear, the isolation and exclusion, the stigmatization and silencing of those who don’t conform — that will come back, believe me. They will create institutions that operate much more effectively, much more subtly than the Stasi. The constant lying will also return, along with the disinformation and the fog in which everything loses its contours.”
