Star Rally for Democracy and Diversity

Three weeks ago, we promoted the big “Hand in Hand” rally, and tens of thousands turned out yesterday. In seven separate processions, people marched to the Rotes Rathaus to show their commitment to defending democracy. In addition, cyclists rode through the city along various routes, once again making it clear that we finally need better infrastructure in the city to get to our destinations safely and quickly.

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V. was part of the demonstration for democracy and human rights from Potsdamer Platz to the Red City Hall — which is why our photos are limited to this march. But we hope to be able to share more impressions of the diverse demonstration in the coming days.

The demonstration was organized by a broad coalition of nearly 100 organizations, initiatives, and unions. We converged on the Rotes Rathaus from all districts in a star-shaped formation. Seven thematic march routes brought together the struggles and demands of Berlin’s civil society. The very diverse demands of the individual march routes were summarized in the speeches delivered at the joint closing rally in front of the Rotes Rathaus. We won’t let ourselves be pitted against one another. Because we’re standing together. Because it’s time for things to change!

Not only was the music well-chosen during each of the individual demonstration marches, but everyone also got their money's worth during and after the closing rally in front of the Rotes Rathaus.
