4 days ago we received the first reports that the Bundeswehr was also inviting those who had explicitly stated in their questionnaires that they had no interest in a “career” in the military. Now this has been confirmed. After all the elections turned into a disaster for the CDU, there is no longer any hesitation.

The Berliner Morgenpost also confirms that the number of volunteers is far from sufficient to meet the demand for fresh recruits. The reluctance seen at the beginning of the year is likely due solely to the fact that there were not enough locations available to conduct the physical examinations. By reopening old barracks, this bottleneck has been partially resolved, so that mandatory conscription examinations will be “continuously increased in line with the steadily expanding examination capacities.”

Translated from bureaucratic German, this means that in the future, everyone must expect to be summoned for a conscription examination. This makes it all the more important to increase political pressure against these “measures to ensure combat readiness.” Next Friday, September 25, 2026, there will be an opportunity to do so:
