More save with Linux

For years — actually, it’s been two decades now — we’ve been urging people to stop using Windows or other proprietary operating systems. Whether it’s the constant communication with “home” or failed updates — we’ve collected more than 150 such reports. Now it’s happened again:

As Mikael Markander reports on pcwelt.de, Windows users who have installed the latest September security patches for Windows are finding that “File History” no longer works. As a result, deleted or corrupted files can no longer be restored.

Other consequences include the “Reconnect drive” message appearing even though the (external) media is connected. Additionally, file timestamps are reportedly not being updated, which can jeopardize proper backups.

Computers running Windows 10 and 11 are affected. Microsoft recommends rolling back the September updates until new updates are available. We recommend trying an upgrade to Linux ;-)
