Fairness jetzt! For fair & safe AI

As announced a few days ago, we were able to attend a new event organized by Fairness Jetzt in front of the Brandenburg Gate today, Saturday. Unlike typical demonstrations, a red round table was set up in front of this historic site.

All rally participants who felt a strong connection to the event’s theme were invited to take a seat there to share their opinions and concerns regarding the development of artificial intelligence.

The rally was opened shortly after 12:00 p.m. by Raphael Thelen. We will provide information here about the content of the speeches as soon as we have the transcripts from the participants.

Here, we explain why a hand has become the FairnessJetzt logo.
The hand as our logo — why? Because it defines us as FAIRNESS JETZT, but also as human beings. We believe that everyone should have a say when it comes to AI. That it shouldn’t just be the government making the decisions, but all of us together — ideally in citizens’ assemblies made up of people from all walks of life: those on the right and those on the left, East Germans and West Germans, vegans and car drivers — those who see AI as an opportunity and those who are afraid of it. Together, they work out how we want to deal with this technology, this epochal shift, and then raise their hand during the votes to make their decisions.

The other presentations addressed the dangers associated with the development of AI, each from the speakers’ own personal perspectives. The speakers were:

  • Raphael Thelen explained the rationale behind the “Fairness Jetzt” initiative.
  • Nadine Primo highlighted the dangers posed by deepfakes, particularly for women, and lamented that the rules against digital violence adopted by the Federal Cabinet are far from sufficient.
  • Robin Hotz addressed the dangers of AI for our children, especially in schools and universities.
  • One participant shared that she herself had lost her job in the IT sector due to AI.
  • Justus Fuesers, speaking as a teacher, also addressed the questionable nature of learning with AI and pointed out that AI can only make us dumber, since it does not add anything new to humanity’s knowledge (=the Internet), but merely regurgitates existing knowledge.
  • Jana Goese from PRÜF called out right-wing opinion leaders such as Elon Musk and Peter Thiel by name and warned of the dangers to our democracy posed by AI-generated content and manipulation on (anti-)social media by the AfD. She called for the next PRÜF demonstration at the Brandenburg Gate on November 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
  • Mika Schachenmeyer from Fridays for Future cited many examples in which the new data centers for AI are taking our land, water, and electricity, thereby further destroying the foundations of our livelihoods.

Until the presentations are available, please refer to the event invitation for details. In addition, there was also an intense discussion among the other participants. Afterward, the results of this brainstorming session by the individual small groups were to be shared with everyone in the square. However, the police had “shortened” our event due to the “GenZ regelt” demonstration announced for 2:00 p.m. — too bad. But this won’t be the last event organized by FairnessJetzt.
