Refusing military service – now
We reported on the school strikes in early December 2025 against the reintroduction of military service in Germany. The tenor of all the speeches at these demonstrations was that people should declare their intention to refuse military service now as a precautionary measure.
Talking to people who have served – i.e. people who were not quick enough to avoid being called up – reveals that refusing military service is about more than just a love of peace. In the best case scenario, you will hear that "we drank a lot" and were "very bored."
Everything else that the "servicemen" say is best left unsaid. That's why it's important that there are people like the author of his life story in the blog at 33dbm.de. He didn't experience anything earth-shattering or truly terrible during his military service, yet his story is a warning against playing war games. His conclusion:
"During my time in the military and afterwards, I always swore to myself that I would spare my potential future child this experience and the military destruction of one's own identity. In the meantime, the child has long since arrived, and now conscription is back."
