WERO better than PayPal?

March 1 is DI.Day, the day of digital independence that we have been campaigning for for years. Di.Day is a joint initiative of many organizations, associations, and institutions that share the same goal. All people who value their digital independence can take joint action on March 1 to remove the Big 5, also known as GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft), from their smartphones and laptops.

For the upcoming DI.Day, the organizers have decided to educate us to switch from PayPal to WERO. They have already described how this works on the page linked below. What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a change?

Pro: PayPal is a US data octopus – our data, especially financial data, is not safe there.
Pro: PayPal charges merchants with high fees. This makes our products more expensive and makes merchants dependent on them.
Pro: WERO is the precursor to the digital euro - and you can already practice using it.
Con: WERO is the precursor to the digital euro - and we fear that the digital euro will lead to the abolition of cash or at least further restrictions on the possibilities of the use of cash.

There is little to add to the arguments mentioned there. But for anyone who has already fallen for PayPal or similar services, switching to WERO is definitely a positive step toward breaking free from this dependency. The DI.day creators describe the switch as having a
Preparation time: 5 minutes (activation in your banking app) and a
Difficulty: Easy – but not yet widespread.

Und weil die Frage bei #wero immer wieder aufkommt: Ihr könnt es auch nutzen ohne Zugriff auf das Adressbuch zu geben.
