The rollout of smart meters began in Germany in 2019. The Federal Network Agency had issued guidelines for this, most of which were not met. Now Heise.de reports that hundreds of power grid operators have not installed a single unit for their customers, even six years after the rollout began. But even if the devices have been installed, that still does not mean that they are working. Under certain circumstances, this can take up to three months. Similar to the electronic patient records (ePA), there are simply too many different companies involved.

There is a big difference between whether the installer is commissioned by the so-called basic responsible metering point operator (gMsb) or whether it is a "competitive" metering point operator (wMsb). In the latter case, installation can take place anywhere in Germany, while the basic responsible operator only installs where its own customers live.Conclusion: Digitalization in Germany ...
