Revolt against Trump's blackmail
Today is actually World Day Against Internet Censorship, and there are more than enough reports on that, but we have already reported often enough on the planned chat control and similar censorship measures for years. That's why we've decided to report about something absolutely unthinkable today. Contrary to all data protection efforts, the EU wants to open European databases to the US. It is bad enough that the EU is not taking action against the data snooping of the Big 5, also known as GAFAM, but is not making them pay their fines despite obvious violations of European rules and laws.
Data or visa requirement
Now eko.org is calling on people to support its petition against the sale of our most personal data. If EU countries do not bow to Trump, EU citizens will no longer be able to enter the US without a visa. And it's not just about fingerprints. A leaked document from the Commission provides some frightening insights: the data that could be transferred includes personal information such as our ethnicity, political opinions, religious beliefs, and even our genetic information. This is pure racial profiling and surveillance at the highest level.
All this is happening at a time when Trump's new "National Security Strategy" openly views Europe as "weak" and "decaying", portrays diversity as a threat, and signals support for far-right political forces across the continent. Under no circumstances should the EU pass on the personal data and information of almost half a billion people to a foreign power, and certainly not to the Trump administration.
The EU's data protection commissioner, Wojciech Wiewiórowski, is also sounding the alarm. He warns that this agreement would set a "significant precedent". For the first time, the EU would transfer large amounts of personal data to the border authorities of another country.
We can still overturn this agreement if we act quickly. If we apply enough pressure now, we can still persuade MEPs to vote against it. Sign the petition!
