20.03.2026 "No a la guerra" Petition unterschreiben

Standing Against Violations of International Law

More than 30 organizations and many individuals are supporting an open letter from the Science4Peace Forum — which is officially addressed to Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez but actually calls on other governments in the EU and elsewhere to follow suit. For Spain has sent an important signal: A war without legitimacy under international law must not receive any support.

A regime change, as envisioned by the Trump administration, will never succeed by bombing a country’s civilian population and infrastructure. It is therefore both possible and necessary to clearly criticize and oppose Iran’s domestic policies—while at the same time rejecting military intervention that further escalates violence and undermines international law.

We particularly welcome the Spanish government’s decision not to authorize the use of the U.S. military bases in Rota and Morón for attacks against Iran. Although these bases are operated jointly with the United States, they fall under Spanish sovereignty and must not be used for military actions that contradict the principles of the United Nations Charter or contribute to further escalation. This decision demonstrates that governments can exercise their sovereign responsibility even under international pressure.

No a la guerra – No to War

This message from Spanish civil society became particularly visible during the massive protests against the Iraq War in 2003, when millions of people in Spain took to the streets to oppose a military intervention lacking legitimacy under international law. Even today, this message resonates far beyond Spain. We hope to see a similar mass movement today, as the U.S. government tramples on international law by kidnapping the elected president of Venezuela, crippling Cuba’s economy through a blockade of the island, and setting the Middle East ablaze alongside with Israel.

Other EU member states must quickly follow Spain’s example. The petition remains open for signatures to make it clear that a war without legitimacy under international law must not be supported.
