Against kings and wars of aggression that violate international law

Activists from Freiheit statt Angst were out and about at two locations in Berlin yesterday. First, we supported the NO KINGS rally at Bebelplatz in Berlin Mitte, and then attended a rally organized by Die Linke Neukölln against the murderous war waged by the two self-proclaimed kings, Trump and Netanyahu, against Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine.

While US media celebrated the NO KINGS demonstrations in their home country as 'No Kings!' 8 Million Rally Against Trump in Largest Single-Day Protest in US History, only about 300 people gathered in Berlin to protest against the man whose autocratic economic policies have also made our lives more expensive. For the “US-Americans Aboard,” the primary concern was, of course, the violent ICE raids and the undemocratic measures of the Trump administration in their country.

Stop the war against Iran and Lebanon! Close the airspace to the U.S. military!

People around the world oppose the U.S. government’s murderous war against Iran, waged in collaboration with Israel. From day one, there have been many civilian deaths. Schools, residential buildings, pharmaceutical plants, and food factories have been destroyed. Both the Israeli and Trump administrations are pursuing clear interests in completely reshaping the political landscape in West Asia, whether through the installation of a compliant regime or through the sustained destabilization of the region.

Israel is waging a brutal war in Lebanon, driving hundreds of thousands into flight and leaving them homeless. At the same time, the genocide against Palestinian women in Gaza shows no sign of ending. The war is fueling a dangerous spiral of escalation; it must be stopped immediately. The war of aggression against Iran is part of a long chain of imperialist interventions — from Afghanistan to Iraq to Libya. This also includes Trump’s attack on Venezuela in January of this year, which marked a new phase in treating South and Central America as the U.S.’s backyard in order to secure access to the region’s resources. The Venezuelan people were thus violently deprived of their right to determine their country’s political conditions and the use of its valuable natural resources. And now Cuba is also being targeted through direct naval blockade.

At a rally organized by Die Linke, the SDS, the Gaza Committee, and Solid Berlin at Hermannplatz in Berlin-Neukölln, some 500 participants denounced the German government’s shameful stance on this conflict and called for the closure of the U.S. military bases at Ramstein and Spangdahlem, which are being used as logistical hubs. For weeks, transport planes took off from there “every minute,” and the base serves as a staging ground for state-of-the-art reconnaissance aircraft specialized in electronic warfare; control signals for U.S. drones are also relayed via Ramstein.

The federal government not only tolerates these war efforts; it actively promotes the militarization of society. This includes the massive expansion of the defense budget and the reintroduction of compulsory military service. More Bundeswehr presence in schools, more Bundeswehr advertising on social media, more public appearances by the Bundeswehr, and more powers for the Bundeswehr even within Germany. That is the future the federal government wants. The protesters’ demonstration was therefore directed just as much against the reintroduction of compulsory military service in schools.

No to any German participation in the ongoing wars!
No to the self-proclaimed kings — they, too, belong before the International Criminal Court as war criminals!
