Nuclear power is not sustainable

On the contrary, there is hardly any other technology that has wasted so much money and will continue to cost money for thousands of years to come due to the disposal of radioactive waste. The federal government, and thus the taxpayer, voluntarily assumed these costs in the amount of 18 billion euros from the energy companies.

Now there are countries in the EU that are pushing to continue investing in nuclear technology. To this end, such investments are to be declared "sustainable," as was already planned for gas-fired power plants. Even within the German federal government, there are voices in the CDU/CSU supporting this nonsense. That is because they know that only by civilian nuclear project armed nuclear project may be possible. The NGO .ausgestrahlt.de reports in its latest newsletter:

Europe is facing a critical turning point for its energy future. In the upcoming multiannual financial framework (2028–2034), the EU could for the first time directly promote the construction of new nuclear power plants and the extension of operating licenses — including, for example, small modular reactors (SMRs), which so far only exist on paper.

That is why .ausgestrahlt is now launching a petition! By signing, you are sending a clear signal to the German government:

If Germany does not actively oppose this in the EU budget negotiations, the EU could channel billions of euros from the community budget into nuclear projects instead of renewable energies. That is why we must put pressure on Chancellor Merz and the other nuclear power advocates in the government NOW.

Nuclear power is expensive, risky, and diverts resources away from real climate solutions. Every dollar that goes into nuclear projects is money that cannot be used for the climate-friendly transformation of our energy system.

Sign the petition!
