Against conscription and the military

After December 5, the second major nationwide school strike took place yesterday. Activists from Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V. (Action Freedom Not Fear) were there. For 17 years, we have been campaigning against the recruitment of children and young people by "career advisors" from the German Armed Forces. History has shown us the consequences of unchecked armament. Based on this knowledge, we have been working for years in the Berlin alliance "Schule ohne Militär" (School without the Military).

While more than 55,000 people took part in demonstrations across Germany on December 5 last year, yesterday was also a success, as the organizers expect the same number to have turned out yesterday. In any case, Potsdamer Platz in Berlin was already well filled 10 minutes after the official start of the rally at 11 a.m. This was also due to the fact that some schools had registered "feeder demonstrations" that arrived punctually at the starting point of the large demonstration.

In their speeches, the students articulated their rejection of government policy and made demands. They fundamentally questioned the compulsory registration of all 18-year-olds under the new law of December 2025. In addition, the "Rührt euch" working group against all military and patriarchy stated:

Time and again, young people and their parents contact us because they receive unsolicited advertising from the German Armed Forces by mail. Many are annoyed by this and wonder where the German Armed Forces got their addresses. Unfortunately, the residents' registration offices pass on the data without requiring consent. But young people and their parents can object! An automatic letter can be generated here to prevent this unwanted data transfer. This will make it more difficult for mail, such as the German Armed Forces questionnaire, to be delivered to your address.

If you are over 18, the German Armed Forces will spam you with a questionnaire starting January 1, 2026. For people registered as male (civil status in passport: male), filling out the questionnaire is mandatory. There is a fine for administrative offenses if you do not do so. So if you are firmly opposed to conscription and decide not to fill out this questionnaire, you are undermining your military registration! However, this is important for the "medical examination" during which your body is scanned for fitness for war.

The situation is dynamic at the moment. Resistance now has a noticeable effect. If large numbers of people participate in a total refusal to cooperate with the military, the military will have a serious problem with its legitimacy. But so that you are not alone in committing this administrative offense, talk to those around you and support other total objectors to military service.

FrikoBerlin (Peace Coordination) states:

The federal government is currently planning to reintroduce compulsory military service, one of the most profound encroachments on young people's self-determination. This means that our children will no longer be free to decide which path they want to take after school, but may be obliged to serve in the armed forces. This is a further step towards becoming "fit for war". Chancellor Merz openly admits that "it is not ships, tanks, or aircraft" that are decisive, but above all soldiers. The Chief of Staff of the French Army recently summed up what Merz means by this: We should accept losing our children.
