Peace before Profit

On March 15, people in Freiburg simply set out on foot because they support peace, and this afternoon they will arrive in Berlin after walking nearly 1,000 km.

The organizer of Peace before Profit says of his motivations:

If the journey is long, the goal must be important.

"The developments of recent years have reinforced my feeling that it is not enough to simply hold this idea within myself. I have sensed: If I do not take action for this idea myself, no one else will. Not with my conviction and my stance.

As a child, I often witnessed at family gatherings how the wars of past generations were a recurring topic of conversation. Many people in my extended family suffered lasting damage or were lost entirely during the two world wars. And how resolute that generation’s vow was back then: Never again war!

Today, with these eyewitnesses of that era scarcely remaining, it seems to me that the possibility of a war spreading across Europe is viewed with significantly less skepticism. Should this situation continue to escalate, I would eventually reproach myself for not having tried to bring peace more strongly back into the public consciousness. I wish to follow this inner calling — in memory of my ancestors and out of a sense of responsibility toward present and future generations."

Let us welcome the people who are committed to world peace and who have devoted all their energy to this cause in recent weeks, now that they have reached their destination today, and let us work together to ensure that peace policy finds its way back into the media and political forums. For the majority of German people for sake this is - according to actual polls - still valid. Let's show this to the public.
