Anti-War Day in Berlin
Yes to peace! and NO to militarism
Under this slogan, Berliners took to the streets yesterday in the late afternoon on Unter den Linden, marching from the Neue Wache to the “Bundeswehr Showroom” at Friedrichstraße Station. In the speeches at the opening rally, warnings were once again issued against the federal government’s warmongering and escalation. Anyone who wants to close cultural institutions, such as the Russian House in Berlin and the Consulate General in Bonn, is severing the last remaining ties and also putting the Goethe-Institut branches in Russia at risk of closure.
We must stand up against this madness before Europe lies in ruins once again. Peace is possible if we want it. Before its attack on Ukraine, Russia clearly stated the conditions under which war could have been avoided: No NATO membership for Ukraine!
To whom is this membership worth their own life? Austria and Switzerland have been thriving for decades without NATO, which has plunged at least 10 countries into war in the last 30 years alone. See, for example, here: Increase from 2 to 8 wars per year
