Threatening to use nuclear weapons violates international humanitarian law
Nevertheless, we are currently witnessing nuclear-armed states modernizing and expanding their nuclear arsenals. The risk of nuclear weapons being used is greater today than ever before. Just this past January, experts at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists once again moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward.
That is why we would like to take this opportunity to highlight a two-day event organized by IALANA in Hanover on June 20–21, which will address the following questions:
- What significance do the report and the treaty hold in today’s global context?
- What is needed today to move global and complete nuclear disarmament forward again?
- How can the campaign for the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons help in this regard?
The program begins on Saturday, June 20, 2026
