New Police Law for Saxony
Since the CDU and SPD are in a minority government in Saxony, they each need support from the Left Party, the Greens, or the BSW to get their work done. This time, the BSW stepped up and is boasting that it prevented worse outcomes. This includes equipping every police officer with a Taser and the use of the AI surveillance software Palantir, developed by the right-leaning U.S. entrepreneur Peter Thiel. But Netzpolitik.org has published what is supposed to be included in the new law.
- So-called "source telecommunications surveillance" is also being introduced for counterterrorism purposes. This allows cell phones to be pre-loaded with surveillance software in advance.
- This will permit facial and voice recognition on the internet - what for sure is an objection to the EU AI-Act which protects personal pictures and voice.
- Video surveillance may become "smarter" with AI and is intended to be able to detect dangerous objects or behavior.
- Live facial recognition is planned, which can track people across multiple cameras.
- Vehicle license plates may be automatically scanned as a precautionary measure if there are indications of criminal offenses of "cross-border relevance."
- Under certain circumstances, other software products may be used for data analysis instead of Palantir.
What part of the slogan shown in the image on the right did the Saxonian members of parliament not understand?
